The World: New York - Parents group asks advertisers to boycott Dexter

A parents pressure group is urging advertisers to boycott the CBS crime series Dexter because of its violent nature. The series features a character who works for the police as a bloodstains expert and who has channelled his desire to kill by targeting only criminals.

CBS has edited the series for free broadcast to take out some of the most violent parts. However, the Parents Television Council claims the edits do not go far enough.

Tim Winter, the PTC president, said: "What could possibly lead them to determine that a show about a pathological serial killer hero could be appropriate for 14-year-old children?"

Advertisers that have run spots during the series include Burger King, Pfizer, Capital One and Macy's.
