The World: New York - Question mark over series three of Mad Men

A third season of Mad Men, the Emmy award-winning series about a 60s Madison Avenue ad agency, is in doubt because its creator, Matthew Weiner, has yet to sign up for it.

Weiner is said to have asked AMC, the US channel on which Mad Men airs, for a new deal worth $10 million a year and control of promotion and advertising.

AMC and Lionsgate, the production company behind the show, are thought to be unwilling to part with that sort of money.

Lionsgate declined to comment on rumours that it had been sounding out potential replacements for Weiner, including the creator of West Wing, Aaron Sarkin.
