The World: Oslo - Norwegian titles merge to create Media Norge group

Three regional daily titles in Norway are set to merge with the Schibsted-owned Oslo-based Afstenposten to create a media group called Media Norge.

The directors for both the Bergens Tidende, owned by Bergens, and the Faedrelandsvennen, owned by Kristiansand, have agreed to the deal, while Stavanger Aftenblad will sign up early next week.

Schibsted will control 50 per cent of Media Norge, with the option to buy another 15 per cent after two years.

The deal also includes rules to secure the regional emphasis and editorial independence of the newspapers.

In 2005, the four titles had a combined circulation of just under 600,000 copies.
