The World: Paris - Axel Springer acquires stake in portal

Axel Springer has signed a deal with the founders of to acquire a 41.4 per cent share of the women's portal. The German publishing giant intends to launch a mandatory takeover for the remaining shares of the company, which are valued at EUR284 million.

Andreas Wiele, a member of the Axel Springer magazine management board, said: "As the leading online offering for women in several major European markets, Aufeminin is in an excellent position to increasingly benefit from the growing importance of online media for users and advertisers."

Aufeminin is popular in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland.
