The World: Prague - Court revokes licence for six new digital TV channels

Six digital TV channels that were set to launch in the Czech Republic next year have had their licences revoked.

A local court ruled that the public tender the stations used to obtain their licences was unclear and "opaque", leaving the applications illegal under Czech law.

The six stations appealed against the verdict saying the tender process was set up in favour of existing commercial stations such as Nova and Prima.

Febio TV, one of the stations affected, estimated that it would lose millions of Czech Crowns from pulled advertising.

Adspend from TV advertising in the Czech Republic is estimated to be around EUR315 million.
