The World: Singapore - WPP plans to link BatesAsia and David networks

WPP is planning to draw its BatesAsia and David networks more closely together and may even combine the operations in several regional markets.

It is expected that the two operations, both of which are overseen by Ogilvy & Mather, will stay separate in Singapore. Digby Richards, the David regional chief executive, said: "There have been some talks, but nothing is definite yet."

At the moment, David has a presence in eight Asian markets, including Indonesia, China, India and Japan. Its Thailand office was merged into the local Bates operation late last year, prompting speculation that similar mergers might take place in other markets.

Richards is expected to take on regional operational responsibility for both Bates and David, reporting to the BatesAsia president, Jeffrey Yu.
