The World: Stockholm - Swedish tabloid to launch sports channel

The Swedish tabloid Expressen has announced plans to launch a sports channel in the first half of 2005, to broadcast live sports events.

The launch is a partnership between the Bonnier media group-owned Expressen, the sports-rights holder International Events and Communications in Sports, and the technology company Hego.

Sport Express will be the fifth Swedish channel devoted to sports. The international media company MTG's satellite platform currently runs three Viasat Sports outlets, while its rival Canal Plus has its own sports channel.

The channel will be distributed via the satellite package Can Digital and the cable networks Com Hem and UPC.
