The World: Sydney - Aussie adspend on the up despite global recession

Despite the global economic downturn, adspend in Australia rose 3.7 per cent in 2008, according to research by the Commercial Economic Advisory Service of Australia.

Online advertising enjoyed a notable growth in spend last year with a 27.1 per cent increase in revenues.

Regional daily newspapers saw a lift of 6.3 per cent in ad revenues, while regional non-dailies rose 4.1 per cent.

Both magazine and radio ad income experienced a small rise, increasing by 1 per cent and 0.7 per cent respectively.

Free-to-air metropolitan TV was the only sector to see a fall in revenue, with spend in the category dropping 2.4 per cent last year.
