The World: Sydney - Nine Network suffers ratings blow amid rival growth

The Nine Network, Australia's troubled TV station, has failed to reverse its ratings slump over the summer period.

It dropped more than 4 per cent of total viewers compared with the same period a year ago.

However, the rival Seven and Ten networks increased their audience share, according to the figures from OzTAM, Australia's official measurement source.

David Gyngell, the Nine chief executive, has vowed to turn around the network's fortunes following his appointment last year. Locally produced programming is set to debut this year and old favourites such as the Wide World of Sports are being reintroduced.
