The World: Sydney - Saatchi report finds Aussies happier than Poms

Australian consumers are more likely than British consumers to continue spending through a recession, a study by M&C Saatchi has shown.

The agency's Reacting to the Recession report found that in tougher economic times, British consumers are more likely to cut their spending dramatically, whereas Australians will simply find ways to justify their spending and look for a reason to carry on.

Levels of optimism regarding the economy were also found to be higher in Australia, with 38.7 per cent of Australians feeling positive, compared with just 21.2 per cent in the UK.
