The World: Washington - Junk-food brands face digital marketing probe

McDonald's, Coca-Cola and other food and drinks companies are coming under renewed pressure from US lobby groups over their use of digital technology to market to children.

The groups want the Federal Trade Commission to question companies on their use of digital media in its upcoming investigation into the marketing of snack food and drinks to young people.

The move follows a report by the Berkeley Media Studies Group and the Center for Digital Democracy. The report expresses concern about use of a variety of new channels, including mobile phones, instant messaging, video games and user-generated video, to target children.
