The World: Washington - Obama team calls for digital TV switchover delay

The president-elect Barack Obama's transition team has called for a delay in the digital TV switchover, due for 17 February.

In a letter sent to senators and congressmen on 8 January, the team cited "major difficulties" in the preparations for the digital changeover, and raised questions over the availability of coupons for converter boxes.

Written by John Podesta, the co-chairman of the transition team, the letter read: "With coupons unavailable, support and education insufficient, and the most vulnerable Americans exposed, I urge you to consider a change to the legislatively mandated analog cut-off date."
