Shock, horror: Budweiser has caught the attention of the world with an anti-drink-driving message that tries neither to shock nor horrify people.
In fact, the ad is almost cloyingly sweet. It shows a Labrador – like the one used in the brand’s "puppy love" Super Bowl spot this year – pining for his master who has gone out for beers with friends. At the end of the ad, we discover that the protagonist kept his dog waiting because he decided not to drive home after drinking. Some have criticised the spot for having a somewhat confused message but, for sheer novelty in its particular genre of advertising, "friends are waiting" is a winner.
