- Steve Wreyford, one of TBWA's most senior managers on the NatWest account, has quit the agency.
He has been appointed managing director of Da Costa & Co, replacing Nick Sennett who has left to become European regional director for the San Francisco-based agency Citron Haligman and Bedecarre.
Wreyford's move after little more than two years at TBWA comes amid uncertainty about the future of the £50 million NatWest business at that agency following M&C Saatchi's appointment to handle its latest TV campaign.
Sennett was headhunted by the US shop, which specialises in new economy clients. He is currently recruiting a London-based team to run pan European advertising on the $100 million Palm hand-held computers global account which Citron Heligman captured from FCB last year.
Citron Haligman, a breakaway from Hal Riney & Partners 10 years ago, has a roster dominated by US dotcom clients. Sennett, a former Saatchi & Saatchi and CDP account director, previously ran the Dell computer business at the then Travis Sennett Sully Ross.
Sennett said: "Da Costa ended the year well and I certainly wasn't looking for a move but Citron Haligman has very exciting plans and a good mix of advertising, new media and digital skills. Specialising in the new economy may seem risky but it's much more well established in the US than the UK."
Wreyford was previously board account director on the Alliance & Leicester account at BMP DDB, having joined from D'Arcy where he worked on Umbro, Fiat and House of Fraser.
He will eventually be offered equity in Da Costa whose accounts include the Budgen supermarket chain, Sodastream and Brita water filters which it recently retained following a review.
Nick Da Costa, the agency's chairman, said: "Steve doesn't only have experience of blue-chip clients at top-notch agencies but has an entrepreneurial flair. It's not everybody who can transplant from a big environment to a relatively small one."
