The Omnicom-owned agency already works for a host of healthcare clients, such as Pfizer, Abbott, Organon, Roche and GlaxoSmithKline. The new division, which will unite these accounts, will be headed by the managing director, Marco Scognamiglio, and will be based at Rapp Collins' Riverside office in London.
Rapp Collins Consumer Health will produce European campaigns from its UK hub. However, in addition to European clients, the new division will actively tout itself to US advertisers who wish to extend their marketing outside of the US.
Scognamiglio, who is also the managing director of WWAV Rapp Collins' UK office, will be joined by two partners, Michel Dubery and Rick Mills, as well as two client service directors, John Perkins and Mel Collins.
The Rapp Collins Europe chief executive and WWAV chairman, Chris Gordon, said: "We have now reached a point where we work for six of the top-ten global pharmaceutical companies and it makes strategic sense for us to create a separate brand identity and give the division the opportunity to market itself actively and aggressively grow its client list."
Scognamiglio adds: "We recognised years ago there was a big gap in the market to use targeted communication programmes to influence patient behaviour."
