WWAV Rapp Collins Scotland has scooped the direct marketing

activity for Smirnoff Red in a head-to-head pitch against fellow

Smirnoff direct agency Evans Hunt Scott.

WWAV Scotland has a strong track record in relationship marketing for

drinks clients and has won awards for, among other campaigns, Club

Carling for the Bass-owned lager brand, which has grown since its launch

in 1997 to a membership of 300,000.

It is expected to develop a similar relationship marketing programme for

United Distillers & Vintners-owned Smirnoff Red, although neither client

nor agency was prepared to confirm this. WWAV Scotland will work with

the above-the-line advertising, handled by J. Walter Thompson and based

on the theme ’No imperfections’.

EHS handles the below-the-line activity for Smirn-off’s more niche

brands Smirnoff Black and Smirnoff Blue and has been developing

relationship marketing activity for these since its appointment last

autumn.

Adam Coleman, the managing director of WWAV Scotland, said: ’Smirnoff is

very much a blue-chip drinks brand and we are delighted that it has

given us the opportunity to use our experience in the sector to help it

fulfil its marketing objectives.’

Smirnoff Red’s brand manager, Suzy Smith, said: ’WWAV Scotland has a

proven track record on drinks brands and we are confident the agency can

help us build a mutually beneficial relationship with consumers of our

core Smirnoff brand.’

Other drinks clients handled by WWAV Scotland include Tennents lager and

Highland Distillers, which recently appointed the agency to work on

Macallan whisky.
