- Unique Solutions in Publishing's recently appointed managing director Jackie Newcombe has made her first major appointments at the Associated Newspapers operation. Newcombe, who joined USP from rival Premier in October, has hired former Sunday Mirror magazine editor Felicity Hawkins as the contract publisher's first editorial director and poached Kate Scally from Redwood to take a senior account director role.
Newcombe had declared on her appointment that further appointments would be necessary if USP was to expand successfully. The publisher currently holds contracts for Avon and the London Symphony Orchestra. However, USP's general rate of growth was disappointing in its first year, leading to the departure of previous managing director Simon Barnes in May.
"Since joining USP I have been hugely impressed by the calibre of staff here and tremendously excited about the prospects for the business," said Newcombe. "Felicity and Kate's appointments make a clear statement about our intentions in this market, as they are both very talented and uniquely qualified for the roles I have asked them to fill."
Hawkins' contract publishing experience has included a stint as editorial director of John Brown Publishing. Scally had left a position as advertising director of She and Good Housekeeping to run the prestigious Marks & Spencer account at Redwood.
