Xfm Manchester hires McLean as breakfast show host

LONDON - Xfm has signed Mike McClean to take over as the new presenter of its Manchester breakfast show when Jason Manford leaves later this month.

McClean, who is Manchester born and bred and a Manchester City fan, is best known for his work on Channel 4's 'The Big Breakfast' and 'Richard and Judy', who have sent him to interview stars including Billy Crystal, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Mel Gibson and Brad Pitt.

He also recently took part in 'Celebrity Poker' and Sky One's 'The Match'.

Other changes to the Xfm Manchester schedule include new daytime shows from Rick Shaw, from 10am to 1pm, and Jo Good, from 1pm to 4pm, that will now be broadcast across Xfm London and Manchester.

Matt Whyatt, Xfm Manchester's programme controller, said: "It's a new daytime sound to Xfm Manchester, which will carry on delivering radio presented by people who love playing the best in new music. It's an exciting time and I can't wait for it all to happen."

McClean said: "I've been away from Manchester for too long and now the boy's back. I'm very excited to be on Xfm especially the breakfast show and can't wait for the early mornings to begin.

"It's funny to think that as everyone else is getting up and going to work I'll be finishing for the day."

McClean starts his new role on June 2.
