Internet brand Yahoo has poached Shelaine Green from Orange to be
its marketing director for Europe.
Green replaces Iain Osborne, who left the company abruptly two weeks
ago. Yahoo refused to disclose the details of Osborne’s departure, and
said only: ’He has left to pursue new avenues.’
Green told Marketing: ’The parallels between Yahoo and Orange are many -
in both roles my job was to make technology simple and
customer-friendly. These will be my main concerns at Yahoo, including
creating a clear perception of the Yahoo brand.’
Green will be looking at developing Yahoo’s expanding areas of finance,
travel and news, and establishing Yahoo as a one-stop information
service rather than just a search engine. She is currently reviewing the
company’s whole media and marketing approach.
Green was segment marketing manager at Orange. She was instrumental in
the development and promotion of the Talkshare tariff.
In March, Yahoo recorded 34 million page impressions, making it one of
the most popular sites in the world.
