- Yahoo! is to offer free internet access to the UK from Monday both from via its own website and through a number of co-branded retail partner sites.

The service, dubbed Yahoo! Online, has signed up its first two retailers in music retailer HMV and book chain Waterstone's.

From Monday customers will be able to walk into HMV or Waterstone's stores nation-wide and pick up a free CD-ROM that gives them free internet access via the retailer's internet site. Yahoo! Online is the latest launch in what is becoming an increasingly crowded market as rivals rush to launch their own free internet access services. BT, LineOne and Virgin Net are among those that have recently launched such services.
