Yahoo! poaches big guns for client and agency sales roles

Yahoo! has boosted its sales teams with the addition of three big hitters from Capital, The Guardian and MindShare Digital.

Yahoo! has boosted its sales teams with the addition of three big

hitters from Capital, The Guardian and MindShare Digital.

From 4 September, Joannah Bishop will be responsible for managing

Yahoo!’s growing agency sales team.

Up until four months ago, Bishop was head of London sales at Capital

Radio. She was then relocated to Manchester as acting head of regional

sales following a sales restructure, before being made redundant in

June.

She has more than 15 years’ experience in media sales.

Bishop follows in the footsteps of Yahoo! managing director Martina King

and head of European sales Fru Hazlitt, both of whom joined from

Capital.

Bishop will be joined at Yahoo! by Warren Burke, who takes on the role

of head of client sales.

Burke brings with him a wealth of experience from the national press,

most recently as head of client sales at The Guardian and The

Observer.

His prime goal is to build a strong team to sell across multiple

sectors.

Phil Macauley will head the recently formed planning department. He

joins from MindShare Digital, where he was head of digital planning.

Macauley’s remit is to promote Yahoo!’s portfolio of marketing solutions

- such as web hosting, sponsorships and event marketing - and to serve

as a planning resource for existing and future Yahoo! clients.

One of Macauley’s aims is to encourage fmcg clients to enter into

co-branding exercises with the search engine. For example, a chocolate

bar might carry the Yahoo! logo and in return could have a direct

response mechanism or branding on the site.

Yahoo!’s recruitment drive has not stopped there - other new recruits

have joined the agency and client sales teams. Amanda McKeever joins

from Ziff-Davis; Donia Salah and Nick Waring arrive from IPC’s women’s

weeklies and television weeklies respectively; and Dan Brown joins from

Mirror Group Newspapers.

Angela Ousby, previously sales account executive, has risen to agency

group head and training manager.

Yahoo! UK & Ireland comprises five sales departments: agency sales,

client sales, client services, planning and sales production.

Lee Thompson, sales director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland, said he planned to

boost the number of sales staff by a further 23 by the end of the year.
