Yahoo! UK & Ireland appoints new sales director

- Yahoo! UK & Ireland has appointed Associated New Media's Lee Thompson as its UK & Ireland sales director.

He replaces Bill Gash, who left the company on Friday. It is understood Gash departed without a job to go to. Yahoo! refused to comment on the nature of his departure.

Thompson will be responsible for advertising, sponsorship and e-commerce revenue generation in the UK and Ireland.

Prior to Yahoo!, Thompson was head of sales and marketing for Associated New Media where he had responsibility across the ANM Network and managed the group's communication strategy.

Prior to that he was commercial manager, looking after the launch, promotion and ongoing commercial development of new web brands including This is London, UK Plus, This is Money, and Soccernet.

Other experience includes area sales manager for the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail. He also co-ordinated export marketing initiatives into France for McVitie's, where he worked as an assistant brand manager.

Fabiola Arredondo, managing director of Yahoo! Europe, said: "I am delighted to welcome such an experienced internet executive to the Yahoo! UK & Ireland team. Lee will be instrumental in leading our sales efforts in the UK and Ireland."
