About Smart Energy GB

Smart Energy GB is the national campaign for the rollout of smart meters. Smart meters send automatic meter readings direct to energy suppliers, ending the need for estimates and manual meter readings. Smart Energy GB’s aims are to increase consumer awareness and confidence, assist vulnerable consumers in using smart meters and support small businesses. The campaign intends to communicate with every household and microbusiness in England, Scotland and Wales.

Set up in 2013 as the Smart Energy Central Delivery Body, Smart Energy GB is an independent body created by the government. It aims to develop ‘one of the largest behaviour change campaigns Great Britain has ever seen’. The campaign was launched in 2014 and publicity has included celebrities such as Sir Bob Geldof.

Based in London’s Kings Cross, Smart Energy GB also has offices in Cardiff and Edinburgh. Its chief executive is Sacha Deshmukh and chair is Mark Lund, chief executive of McCann WorldGroup UK.

Smart Energy GB is at the growth stage and looking to recruit, especially from under-represented groups. Job available at Smart Energy GB include event producer, policy and public affairs assistant, media relations manager, marketing executive for campaigns, marketing executive for specialist audiences, digital assistant and policy and public affairs manager.

Smart Energy GB is seeking a major delivery partner who can reach consumers directly throughout the UK. It also aims to develop many effective partnerships with private, public and voluntary sector bodies.

By 2020 everyone in England, Wales and Scotland will have been offered a smart meter. The programme is already underway and almost two million smart meters have been installed. Smart Energy GB says this is the biggest national infrastructure project in generations and will enable a more energy efficient system for the country.
