Sydenham High School is seeking to appoint a Director of Marketing and Communications for January 2018. This is a new post and comes at an exciting time in the school’s development. The school has a new Head, Katharine Woodcock, who is introducing positive changes and renewed momentum.

Established in 1887, Sydenham High is an independent day school for girls aged 4-18 with just under 600 pupils. Situated in the leafy suburbs of South-East London and with excellent transport links, the community at Sydenham High School benefits from excellent facilities and is a warm, happy and welcoming place to work.

The school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the leading and largest group of independent girls’ schools in the UK. The GDST is at the forefront of education for girls and has a strong voice in promoting opportunities for young women.

As Director of Marketing and Communications, you will play a pivotal role in continuing to build the reputation and profile of Sydenham High School, to help ensure that it continues to be a first choice for parents and girls in the area. You will play an integral part in delivering a first-class understanding of the school’s market and, using this knowledge, you will develop and drive an innovative and effective marketing and communications strategy.  The successful candidate will bring original ways to promote and amplify the successes and activities of the school through the media and digital platforms, as well as advertise and liaise with feeder schools and parents.

As Director of Marketing and Communications, you will be the guardian of the school brand and a champion of marketing and communications, ensuring a consistent tone of voice in all external and internal communications. You will have an astute awareness of brand development and positioning and be able to spearhead opportunities that social media gives for innovative marketing activity. You will also have experience of fundraising and building support from different audiences, developing opportunities to foster and improve links with the local community and stakeholders. Expertise in market segmentation is vital in order to deploy analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategy, as is the ability to analyse the effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives.

You will possess exemplary communication skills and a positive and diplomatic manner, thus enabling you to build excellent relationships with others. The gravitas and experience to work with the Headmistress, Senior Leadership Team, staff, parents, alumnae, and the local community, as well as the Girls’ Day School Trust, are key qualities. A willingness to be flexible and work for the good of the school is also essential.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and a strong professional development programme. These benefits include:

• Competitive salaries and pay progression
• Access to extensive professional development opportunities
• Training grants for qualifications
• Generous pension schemes
• Free life assurance benefit
• Free school lunches
• A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools
