Interim Director of Media

c. £60,000 pa (pro rata)

Fixed Term Contract, 12 month maternity cover

Victoria Embankment, London

We are looking for a sharp, bright and energetic high performer with a proven media relations/PR background, a keen head for news and current affairs and the ability to find and tell the best stories to join us in this interim role as Director of Media.

About Nesta

Nesta is a global innovation foundation.  We back new ideas to tackle the big challenges of our time.  Our mission is to spark and shape new ideas that improve how the world works for everyone.  We use our knowledge, networks, funding and skills - working in partnership with others, including governments, businesses and charities.  We are a UK charity but work all over the world, supported by a financial endowment.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our busy press office, leading and motivating a team which regularly secures national print and broadcast coverage, as well as media partnerships. You will work with digital, events and brand leads to join up projects, campaigns and messaging across activities and seek out and plan the best of Nesta stories for media. Providing creative treatment to projects, programmes and campaigns will also form part of this wide-ranging role.

To secure this exciting opportunity
An excellent PR project manager and an exceptional communications all-rounder, you have strong media relations experience and contacts and the gravitas and interpersonal skills needed to guide the press office team on both proactive and reactive media engagement and won’t be adverse to rolling up your sleeves to support them. You are calm under pressure, can think quickly, digest large amounts of information and consult and advise quickly on options and tactics. Finally, you will be used to managing your own team, collaborating with a wider team, and getting high profile results.

It’s a rare opportunity to combine the benefits of working in-house, with the chance to work across a wide range of issues and sectors, targeting a broad range of stakeholders.
