About Fine Cell Work

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is an innovative charity and social enterprise with a unique model: we train and pay prison inmates to do professional needlework in their cells. This purposeful and creative work has a powerful impact on the rehabilitation of prisoners, giving them confidence, pride, social skills and the independence to stop reoffending. Working with over 550 stitchers (92% of whom are men) in 32 prisons, FCW now has an international reputation both for prisoner rehabilitation and for the beautiful products we make. We work with renowned designers including Cath Kidston, Kit Kemp, Karen Nicol and Blithfield & Co. as well as selling through retailers such as Royal Academy, Conran, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.

Fine Cell Work’s offices are in Central London and are run by a team of 16 staff supported by approximately 300 volunteers yearly, 80 of whom teach in prisons.

Role Overview:

The key focus of this role is to drive digital sales growth, drive the shop revenue growth and retail partners sales growth and for stock control and logistical support for all sales channels.

We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated, organised individual with a real drive to build sales. You need good interpersonal skills to lead our Sales and E-Commerce growth in a crucial period for the organisation as we grow the social enterprise to support the rehabilitative work of the charity.  This role is ideal for someone from a commercial background looking to utilise their skills in a charity sector role, someone with a digital marketing background with experience in ecommerce or a sale-driven individual keen to return to work after a career break who wants to make a difference in the voluntary sector.

You should be accurate and meticulous with detail, target-focused, process and sales driven, have an eye for analytics and an interest in working for a social enterprise. A willingness to roll your sleeves up and contribute to the day to day workings of a small organisation is also a must.


  • To build on and implement our e-commerce marketing strategy; utilising email marketing, partnership marketing, content marketing and a press product strategy.
  • Manage commercial side of Fine Cell Work website.
  • Monthly product and all channel sales analysis; to track and improve sales and margin
  • Accountable for sales performance of the ecommerce site, our pop-up shops and retail partnerships.
  • To support Events & Communications Manager with stock and logistical support for major sales and fundraisings events. 
  • Monitor competitors and develop understanding and knowledge of products and pricing in the marketplace.
  • To oversee the functions delivered by the Sales & Office Coordinator who directly reports to the Sales Ecommerce Manager, specifically:
    • tele-sales 
    • stock management
    • e-commerce despatch and fulfilment
    • office systems

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • A record of successful sales growth in a small-scale retailer, or similar commercial role.
  • Experience of digital marketing including Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Social Media and SEO.
  • The interpersonal skills to drive business development of wholesale clients (retailers and interior designers) and to motivate volunteers.
  • An interest in working in the charity sector.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce clear reports.
  • Experience of using Shopify or another e-commerce platform.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent, demonstrable verbal and written skills
  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level.
  • Experience of working with volunteers or as a volunteer.
  • Exceptional organisational skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work as part of a team and support at events and sales.
  • A good level of fitness to help with the movement of stock and set-up at events


  • Experience of using Salesforce.
  • Ability to structure and create commercial presentations.
  • Visual merchandising skills.

You will need to be able to go through an enhanced DBS check.
