This position is at a leading content marketing agency. You will be personally responsible for generating maximum revenue, across all revenue streams, for this portfolio of Consumer Health & Fitness Media. A key role within the Commercial Sales Department, this will involve proactively selling to major client and agency contacts to increase commercial revenues in line with objectives set by the Ad Manager and Group Commercial Director. You may be asked to work on different titles within the portfolio at any time so a flexible approach to selling is required. You will need to have agency contacts.


• To achieve, and exceed where possible, the paging and revenue budgets for the  portfolio, as directed by the Ad Director

• To effectively sell to advertising agencies and clients by preparing targeted presentations, using the latest industry data and reader research and offering a platform of revenue generating solutions including: display advertising, classified advertising, advertisement promotions, inserts, supplements, sponsored editorial etc.

• To maintain a high personal profile amongst key clients and agencies by achieving an agreed number of effective telephone calls and agency/client sales appointments per week

• To monitor all competitor titles and other relevant media that can provide sales leads

• To keep abreast of new and existing research (NRS, TGI, PPA, CMA research etc.) in order to develop a deep understanding of your brands and their market place

• To keep up to date with the sales story for your brands and to communicate the benefits to existing and potential advertisers

• To attend any regular account management, editorial or magazine client meetings as and when required. You will need to be fully prepared for these meetings and will be expected to make a positive contribution 

• To work to deadlines as outlined by the Ad Director and ensure that materials are supplied to production on time and as requested


• To develop and implement strategies for business development amongst your clients and agencies with a view to maximising revenues and profits

• To devise bespoke sales presentations, fact sheets and proposals to promote your brands

• To ensure market intelligence is updated by regularly reading trade press, national/business press, competitor magazines and monitoring competitor online sites

• To take responsibility for ensuring that all sales support material for is up to date and openly available

• To keep openly available records updated on Navision detailing agency and client contacts and records of meetings and negotiations

• To build and maintain mailing lists for your titles

• To report on all matters relating to commercial activities, in a formal structured meeting with the Ad Director, once a week or as required


• To assume the high standards and attitudes expected of a member of the Seven commercial team

• To aim to generate a high and positive profile for yourself, your brands, the wider portfolio and the Company with all individuals and organisations with whom we do business

• To attend exhibitions / trade fairs / press events / launches, where appropriate, as a representative for Seven Publishing and report back to the team

• You may be required to attend Seven functions or hospitality outside of work hours and will be expected to so do when requested


• Sales experience preferably in magazines or national press – previous classified experience would be desirable as would evidence of formal sales training (eg DIPADA, AIDA or similar)

• Understanding of NRS, TGI and Ad Dynamix is preferred 

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Power-Point and excel

• Projecting a self-motivated, resilient, energetic and pro-active demeanour

• Ability to problem solve and deal with difficult customers but to seek help when appropriate

• Willingness and ability to adapt positively to changes in the work environment and assume new responsibilities as they arise
