Salary: £60,000 to £65,000

We’re looking for a dynamic and talented individual to lead our Media & PR Team. This is a role with huge opportunity for impact, at this exciting time of growth and change for Independent Age.

Over the past 10 years, Independent Age has been through a major transformation. We’ve moved from operating as a benevolent trust, to establishing ourselves as a charity that provides impact at scale, helping older people stay independent and live well. Last year, 1 million people accessed our services.

Our plan now is to significantly increase our number of supporters and service users, and to deepen our engagement with them. In order to seize this opportunity and help us turn this vision into a reality, we have brought together the key functions that drive the public to Independent Age – Marketing, Communications and Fundraising – and taken the bold step of building a brand new Engagement Division.

You will be a key member of the Engagement Management Team, ensuring that Media & PR forms an integrated part of an effective wider programme of fundraising and engagement campaigns and activities. This is a hugely exciting opportunity to be part of a brand new high-calibre senior team responsible for shaping and driving the public growth of a rapidly growing charity.

With creativity at your core and an unrelenting consumer focus, you will have spotted that not only can we continue to capitalise on our policy work to increase our media profile but, with such a universal cause, we are also uniquely placed to seize a much wider opportunity to grow our public profile through a broader portfolio of creative Media & PR campaigns and activities.

You will expand our creative horizons and take an emotionally engaging approach to developing our external messaging and narrative. You will lead on Media & PR strategies that help embed Independent Age into the public consciousness, inspire and agitate conversations about the issues that impact on the everyday lives of older people, increase association with the public between these issues and our work, and ultimately inspire an energised community of people to take positive action for and with older people.

You will bring a strong track record of leading Media & PR functions in complex, public-facing, not-for-profit organisations, and evidence of creating successful integrated Media & PR strategies which help raise awareness, build understanding, grow income, drive action and increase influence.
