Assistant Strategic Comms Officer
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) plays a vital role at the heart of UK life. The wide-ranging work we do includes safeguarding the natural environment, supporting the UK’s world-leading food and farming industries, sustaining a thriving rural economy and leading the engineering of the nation’s defences against natural threats and hazards. Join Defra and you will be part of a department that is responsible for the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe.
We are looking for an Assistant Information Officer to join the Defra Strategic Communications and External Affairs team to deliver communications activity around EU Exit. This will include working across the team developing and delivering communications and campaign activity to consumers and businesses so that they are ready for any changes as a result of the UK’s departure from the EU. This is a strategic priority cutting across the whole of Defra and the wider Defra group organisations.
In this role you will:
• Support the delivery of our communications priorities across the EU Exit programme, helping to keep the team on track to meet our deadlines and deliver our plans.
• Help to procure and design compelling communications products to support our campaigns.
• Support the organisation and delivery of internal and external events.
• Help to build key relationships across the organisation
This is a fantastic introductory role to the world of strategic communications. To be successful you will already have a track record in delivering effective communications, strong organisational and strategic abilities, an appetite for knotty problems and a belief in the difference effective communications can make.
We aim to support the professional and personal wellbeing of everyone in Defra. Our benefits include generous annual leave, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, salary sacrifice benefit options, and an employee discount scheme. We also offer flexible working and a variety of learning and development opportunities.
