Then you could be the next deputy editor of Third Sector, the leading publication for the charity and voluntary sector in the UK.

Third Sector’s readers are senior managers in charities: they’re the chief executives, the fundraisers and the comms managers. They're also the change-makers in local communities and government. Quite simply, they’re the unsung heroes who keep this country running no matter what.

As deputy editor, you’ll support the planning and delivery of all aspects of Third Sector’s editorial work. So that’s print, online, social and live.

First and foremost, you need to be an exceptional writer with a strong track record of writing longer-form articles as well as news. You also have need to have experience of managing teams and driving performance.  A willingness to support Third Sector’s commercial activities is also a pre-requisite.

The job

  • Commission features and other articles for both the magazine and website.
  • Oversee the website, ensuring it continues to hit its monthly targets.
  • Write longer-form features and analysis for both the magazine and website. Assist with managing columnists.
  • Drive and motivate the editorial team, and deputise for the editor in his absence.
  • Assist with all aspects of the editorial planning, both in print and online.
  • Help plan and develop Third Sector’s portfolio of live events.
  • Speak publicly at event events and act as an ambassador for the brand.


The person 

  • Proven experience in journalism or a senior comms role.
  • First-class writing skills.
  • Excellent commissioning and copy-editing skills.
  • An interest in the charity sector and social justice.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Experience of managing teams, overseeing projects and motivating staff to produce work of the highest standard.
  • Enthusiasm for both print and online journalism.
  • Good oral communication skills, and an ability to speak publicly.
  • Knowledge of analytics tools such as Google Analytics is preferable.
  • Knowledge of media law is preferable
