What Car? and Autocar are launching several exciting new video projects in the coming months, and we're looking for an equally ambitious video editor and producer to join our growing video department.

Over that time What Car? has forged a reputation for no-nonsense new car reviews that answer the questions buyers really want to know. Now, you can even buy a car through What Car?. With over 200,000 YouTube subscribers to date, it’s time to push What Car?’s video output to industry-leading level to support its ambitious growth targets across the brand and its new car buying platform. 

Autocar's video channel is already regarded as among the best in motoring, with more than 740,000 YouTube subscribers and a reputation for making some of the most exciting films about the world's most exciting cars. Now, it is ready to take the next step forward.

The ideal candidate will work across both titles, with a focus on What Car?, and be as comfortable editing films as organising the diary. They must be highly proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, with good working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and the rest of the Creative Cloud suite. They must also be confident in contacting locations, equipment rental companies and car manufacturers on both phone and email to help organise shoots for the team’s camera operators.

Knowledge of the YouTube CMS, including not only uploads but analytics and SEO techniques is also a bonus.

They will also be able to balance their creativity and technical prowess with a realistic, cost-effective and time-efficient approach to briefs. They must also feel at ease working with high-profile brands and their representatives. An ability to work under pressure, think on your feet and make the best use of limited time is essential. 

You must be fully versed in the latest video techniques and opportunities, so that you can strive to continually improve the quality of the department’s video output.

As well as being able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of relevant editing techniques, the ideal candidate will be proficient in using the following hardware and software:


Essential experience

  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • YouTube CMS

Additional bonus

  • Adobe Illustrator CC
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Audio recording equipment for voiceover
  • The ability to design / animate motion graphics would be an advantage
