Then you could be the next editor of Third Sector, the leading publication for the charity and voluntary sector in the UK.

Third Sector’s readers are senior managers in charities: they’re the chief executives, the fundraisers, the comms managers and the change-makers in government and local communities. 

As editor, you’ll oversee the planning and delivery of all aspects of Third Sector’s editorial work. So that’s print, online, social and live.

First and foremost, you need to be an exceptional journalist with a strong track record of writing longer-form articles as well as news and opinion pieces. You also need to have experience of managing teams and driving performance.  A willingness to  support Third Sector’s commercial activities is another a pre-requisite.

The job

  • Oversee Third Sector’s entire editorial coverage, including the magazine, website and podcast.
  • Lead the development of the editorial strategy and ensure Third Sector continues to hit its monthly targets.
  • Write longer-form features, interviews and opinion articles, and assist with managing columnists.
  • Speak publicly at event events and act as an ambassador for the brand.
  • Drive and motivate the editorial team.
  • Help plan and develop Third Sector’s portfolio of live events and work closely with business director  

The person 

  • At least five years' experience in journalism.
  • First-class writing skills.
  • Excellent commissioning and copy-editing skills.
  • An interest in the charity sector and social justice.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Experience of managing teams, overseeing projects and motivating staff to produce work of the highest standard.
  • Enthusiasm for both print and online journalism.
  • Good oral communication skills, and an ability to speak publicly.
  • Knowledge of analytics tools such as Google Analytics is preferable.
  • Knowledge of media law is essential
