About the job Summary

The Department of Health and Social Care support ministers in leading the nation’s health and social care to help people live more independent, healthier lives for longer. We are searching for a Head of Campaigns who will develop and deliver communication programmes to support the government’s investment in, and plans for, the NHS. The successful applicant will manage a team of multi-disciplinary communications professionals to devise and deliver the strategy.

The role is, also, integral to Senior Management, working to develop a highly skilled, innovative team by using best practice across a number of specialties, including campaigns, external affairs, research and insight and data.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in an area demanding strategic oversight, leadership, political nous and innovation, whilst leading the communications on one of the government’s highest priorities.

A background in the health or social care sector is not an essential requirement for this role, but you will be required to demonstrate a proven track record of successful communications management in high profile areas, excellent leadership and innovation.

Job description

  • Support and advise senior leaders and ministers on how communications can help deliver the government’s objectives
  • Develop and oversee the delivery of a communications strategy to support the NHS to deliver high quality care and secure the right workforce
  • Ensure all work is audience focused and based on the latest data and insight, and evaluation is used to continually refine and improve programmes of work
  • Work as part of the Senior Management Team to set the direction and drive improvements and innovation across the branch, as well as the wider communications division
  • Ensure your team has an effective learning and development programme to ensure they are constantly learning and meeting their potential
  • Act as an advocate for the department externally, and across government

Responsibilities

  • The ability to confidently lead, inspire and empower teams and to build team capability
  • Experience of communications for high profile, large and complex organisations
  • A track record of developing, project managing and delivering communications strategies that take in the full comms mix, including digital marketing, research and no cost / low cost campaigning at both a national and local level
  • Experience of leading creative, audience focussed campaigns
  • A track record of gaining the confidence and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Highly developed written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to brief on complex issues rapidly, presenting in a clear, concise manner
