About the job Summary
The Department of Health and Social Care’s newly redesigned and award-winning Communications division is looking for a Chief Campaigns Officer (NHS) to support the Head of Campaigns (NHS) to lead and project manage the communications around the Government’s commitments to build more hospitals, increase the NHS workforce and increase the number of GP appointments.
The successful applicant will lead the management and delivery of one of a key pillars of the overall strategy. This will involve leading a team of multi-disciplinary comms professionals to deliver an innovative, audience focussed communications campaign.
The right candidate will have experience of strategic planning, project management, long term campaign delivery, managing external communications agencies and digital marketing.

A background in the health or social care sector is not an essential requirement for this role, but you will be required to demonstrate a proven track record of successful communications management in high profile areas, excellent leadership and innovation.
- Lead a team to project manage and deliver a high profile strategy - provide oversight and leadership of programme and campaign delivery, including ensuring that all activity is planned and evaluated in line with GCS standards.
- Use data and insight to evolve the strategy and learn from what works and what doesn’t.
- Play an active role in corporate leadership (departmental, directorate and divisional) ensuring effective management of budgets, people and business processes.
- Encourage personal and professional development to ensure the team is constantly learning and using the latest communications techniques.
- The ability to confidently lead, inspire and empower teams and to build team capability.
- Experience of communications for high profile, large and complex organisations.
- A track record of developing, project managing and delivering communications strategies that take in the full comms mix including digital marketing, research and no cost / low cost campaigning at both a national and local level.
- Experience of managing and procuring external communications agencies.
- A track record of gaining the confidence of and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Highly developed written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to brief on complex issues rapidly, presenting in a clear and concise manner.
