Job Title:               Assistant Marketing Manager

Location:               Reading

Reports To:           Marketing Manager

Job Purpose  

  • Communicate the Company’s brands, products and services to the general public in a way that maximises demand and profitability
  • Develop and maintain a strong corporate image at all levels and in all areas
  • Determine the demand for products and services offered by the Company and its competitors and identify potential customers.
  • Maximise the use of Reading Buses family of brands in communicating the Company’s messages as appropriate.
  • Manage strong internal and external communications to improve Company performance
  • Work with local employers to spread information about our services and products and to devise green travel plans and similar
  • Develop top quality information for customer to be used in leaflets, on the roadside, internet, and elsewhere as appropriate.
  • Develop new means of communicating with customers using web-based and other e-communication, such as Facebook and Twitter.
  • Manage relationships proactively with local and national media to maximise the benefit to the Company.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure budgets are adhered to for cost and revenue control
  • Formulate, direct and coordinate communications activities and policies to promote products and services, working with third parties as appropriate.
  • Initiate campaigns and projects in co-operation with the Marketing Manager.
  • Identify, develop, and evaluate a communications strategy, based on knowledge of the Company’s objectives, market characteristics, and cost and mark-up factors.
  • Consult with the Marketing Manager on product specifications such as design and colour used in all forms of communication.
  • Develop newsletters, e-communication and other appropriate means of communicating company information to staff rapidly.
  • Manage all website, mobile application, social media content and any new medium that may become popular
  • Manage the company’s involvement with internal and external events such as University Freshers Fairs, School open days, the Reading Festival, our family open day and employee awards evening – with support from Marketing Manager
  • Coordinate and participate in promotional activities and trade shows
  • Formulation of awards entries to gain local and national recognition for Reading Buses family
  • Manage revamps of current bus services across all media
  • Manage maintenance of bus interior and exteriors (vinyls)
  • Advise business and other groups on local and national factors affecting the Company’s products and services, and to work with the marketing functions of other businesses to develop and maintain synergies between them and the Company.
  • Ensure that the Company avoids such problems as copyright infringement with external producers and distributors.
  • Manage internal and external relationships where these exist.
  • Manage, develop, coach and motivate Customer Information Coordinator
  • Achieve best value for money in all activities, in particular by control of costs
  • Keeping up-to-date with travel industry and general marketing developments

Job Specific Skills, Capabilities and Experiences

  • Knowledge of principles of marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a marketing role.
  • Logical and reasoning approach to problem solving; systems analysis and critical thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels using all types of media.
  • Creative, innovative and adaptable approach.
  • Knowledge of principles of marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of IT, especially web-based operations
  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques.
